Secrets…
They weigh you down. I’ve kept a secret all my life. It’s my mother’s secret, too. I inherited it from her along with a unique ability that only we possess. She’s gone now, another victim of addiction. If her death isn’t enough to bring me to my knees, her betrayal flays me to the bone. Because the secret my mother and I have been keeping is just one of many she’d kept. She never told me I have an older brother. And now he’s here, eager to be my guardian.
There is no one else. So I move across the country to live with this stranger, my brother. REVIEW:
This book
caught me off guard. It was moving along
merrily as a nice New Adult romance.
Raielle is a recent orphan when a brother (she didn't know existed)
comes to claim her. She's from
California and he lives in upstate New York.
This book works great as a fish-out-of-water story. Raille (who is beautiful, laid-back and knows
her own mind) meets Lucas, a BMOC (Big Man On Campus), and the relationship,
though rocky, takes off. I enjoyed this
getting to know you period filled with misunderstandings and hot attraction. Then BOOM, the author throws a wrench into
the story by introducing a paranormal element.
Normally, I would be annoyed by this left turn but this narrative is strong
and compelling. The last quarter becomes an intense mystery that left me at the edge of my seat. Ahhh, beware of cliffhanger.
IN A NUTSHELL:
In an often crowded field, this one is a nice standout with unexpected turns. I can't wait to find out what is next.
