We also offer you this special Q & A with the author:

Q&A:
1. Can you talk about the covers for this series and your reaction to seeing them for the first time? How much input do you have for the covers?

GS: I adore these covers! They are beautiful and sexy with the perfect hint of small-town charm.

I actually don’t have a lot of input in most of my covers (not a lot of authors do). But I go ahead and give it my all, anyway. LOL. I send pictures and say, “This is the hero!” Or, “What about this pose?” Or, “Isn’t this sexy???????”

2. What makes Beck tick?

GS: Sex. What? It’s true. Okay, okay. As a former foster kid, stability is his crack. He craves it, dreams of his next hit, but he’s also afraid of it—is certain it can’t last. So, while he chases it, he also pushes it away. Hence the he-sluttery. Then he meets Harlow…and she becomes his new addiction.

BLOG TOUR: REVIEW, EXCERPT, & GIVEAWAY - "Hard to Let Go" by Laura Kaye

Thanks for joining us in celebrating the release of Hard to Let Go, Beckett's story in the Hard Ink series. This is the final book for the original Hard Ink gang.   Enjoy the excerpt and review and don't forget to enter the Giveaway!

Beckett Murda hates to dwell on the past. But his investigation into the ambush that killed half his Special Forces team and ended his Army career gives him little choice. Just when his team learns how powerful their enemies are, hard-ass Beckett encounters his biggest complication yet—a seductive, feisty Katherine Rixey.

A tough, stubborn prosecutor, Kat visits her brothers’ Hard Ink Tattoo shop following a bad break-up—and finds herself staring down the barrel of a stranger’s gun. Beckett is hard-bodied and sexy as hell, but he’s also the most infuriating man ever. Worse, Kat’s brothers are at war with the criminals her office is investigating. When Kat joins the fight, she lands straight in Beckett’s sights . . . and in his arms. Not to mention their enemies’ crosshairs.

Now Beckett and Kat must set aside their differences to work together, because the only thing sweeter than justice is finding love and never letting go.

I went into this book with a bit of wistfulness.  This is the last of the Hard Ink series for the original characters introduced in book one.  It says a lot about Laura Kaye's writing that I have become so attached to these characters and this storyline.  And I'll say this up front, I loved the ending.  It is fitting and poignant.

This book features the stories of Becket Murda and Katherine Rixey.  Becket is the stoic one of the Hard Ink crew.  He's brooding with a level of dangerous energy just beneath the surface.  Katherine is a prosecutor for the Justice Department.  She's committed and loyal with a strong sense of right and wrong.  I like my heroines to have great character with a sense of value and purpose.  Kat is right up my alley.  She is also smart and competent with both her mind and her shooting.  She is a standout heroine in this series of big alpha male personalties.  They are an unlikely pair, but that is what makes this story so appealing.

On the surface Beckett seems so hard.  He hard muscled and hard headed.  They say still waters run deep.  Beckett is like the Grand Canyon. When Ms. Kaye opens him up, shows his vulnerability, I was hooked. Because of his difficult upbringing with his dad, Beckett goes through life numb. The only thing he really feels is anger, and that frightens him. Therefore, he tamps down most of this emotions. If there are no highs, there can be no lows.  If you don't want for things, you won't be disappointed.  Wanting something puts you at risk.  Taking a chance with Kat opens up his world to new possibilities both good and bad.

The relationship between Beckett and Kat is explosive.  After their first meeting in which Beckett held a gun on Kat, they are antagonistic toward one another.  There are very explicit sexual encounters brimming with overwhelming tension.  What starts as basically sex with a stranger morphs into something deeper as admiration, respect, and adoration settles in.

My one small critique of this story is that I would have liked to see more MacGyver-ness from Beckett.  He is suppose to be the gadgets-guy with the ability to fix things.  I would've been great to experience more of this.

IN A NUTSHELL:
I'm sorry to see it end.  This book is prompting me to start over and read the series from the beginning.  I see an episode of binge reading in my near future.

Angel. Beckett called her Angel.
Kat could barely breathe, and it had absolutely nothing to do with the 250-pound linebacker currently lying on top of her.
He’d called her Angel.
Why? All they did was fight and annoy the shit out of each other. Where had the term of endearment come from?
Maybe it was just the haze of lust and epically good sex talking. That could totally be it. She wondered if he even realized he’d said it.
But it was still confusing as hell. She’d been so mad at him last night that she hadn’t even wanted to be in the same room with him. And she’d promised herself that after all the bullshit he’d said, this wasn’t happening again. Not ever.
Now, here she lay. His cock still tucked inside her, his body covering her, his arms holding her. And a part of her didn’t want it to end. Because he’d also apologized. More than that, he’d made it clear that he’d flown off the handle because he was worried about her. Which was downright sweet, really. In a totally fucked-up Beckett Murda kinda way.
Honestly, he was, at once, the sexiest, most attractive man she’d ever known—and the most confusing and infuriating.
He’s rough around the edges, but he’s a good guy. Beckett just takes a while to let anybody get close …
That’s what Marz had said. Could it be that Beckett’s whole strong-silent-grouchy routine was just … some kind of defense mechanism? If so, a defense against what?
And did it really matter?
She laid there for a long moment, surrounded by Beckett’s heat, his soft breath playing over her ear.
Yeah, on some level it did matter. Because there was something between them. Clearly. Maybe it was just pure animal attraction. Except he’d given her glimpses that there was something more to him. Something deeper. Something that spoke to her heart. All of which played as much of a role in the fact that they kept ending up naked together—or partially naked, anyway—as the fact that he fucked her better than she’d ever been fucked in her life. At least, it explained why she kept giving in.
“Beckett?” she whispered, not possessing the energy to speak much louder.
No answer.
“Beckett?” she said again.
Holy shit. The big, hard-ass jerk had fallen asleep? Holding her.
Aw, crap. That was kinda sweet, too. Proving that her heart was such a sucker. Because she didn’t want to wake him up. She didn’t want him to get off of her. All she wanted was to listen to the call of her exhaustion and close her eyes.

BLOG TOUR: REVIEW, EXCERPT & GIVEAWAY - "Up in Smoke" by Tessa Bailey

Up in Smoke

by Tessa Bailey
Crossing the Line #2

Never start a fire you can't control...

Connor Bannon is supposed to be dead. Dishonorably discharged from the Navy SEALs, he's spent the last two years working as a street enforcer in Brooklyn for his cousin's crime ring. Through a twist of fate, he's now in Chicago, working undercover to bust criminals. But when a cute little arsonist joins the team-all combat boots, tiny jean shorts, and hot-pink hair-Connor's notorious iron control slips.

Erin "she's getting away" O'Dea knows two things. She hates authority. And... Nope, that's it. When she's forced to operate on the "right" side of the law, her fear of being confined and controlled blazes to the surface. The last thing she expects is a control freak like Connor to soothe her when she needs it most. Worse, something behind the sexy ex-soldier's eyes ignites a dangerous inferno of desire. One that invites Erin to play with fire. And one that could get them both killed...

AVAILABLE NOW

There is something utterly attractive about this book.  Yes, it has Tessa Bailey’s signature dirty talk, which by the way, is pretty darn creative.  But it is more than that, this book appeals to me at multiple levels.  I’m a sucker for “team” stories and this one is a doozy.  The Chicago PD has a new crime fighting team and it’s made up of criminals.  What better way to catch a crook than to employ one?  It’s also a love story between two “misfits” – a girl who likes to play with fire and a guy with severe anger management issues.  It is erotica’s version of the Dirty Dozen, so expect it to be a little over the top.  And it is appealingly so.

It has been a while since I’ve read a Tessa Bailey book.  I knew she could turn a phrase and I enjoyed reading descriptions like:  “He looked like a man who could survive on his own in the wilderness with nothing but string and a windbreaker.  Capable.  Made of steel.”  The banter between Conner and Erin is snappy and sexy with passages that make you want to smile and dirty talk that makes you want to clench.

What really strikes me is the tenderness between Connor and Erin.  Erin is very troubled and has special needs that not anyone can meet, but Connor discovers that despite what it might cost him, he is ready to give her what she needs.  For Erin, this mostly self-centered girl discovers that as their relationship progresses she feels profound sadness that she might not be able to give Connor what he needs.  It is breaks my heart.  Soon they discover they are each other’s yin and yang:

She was a signal of peace he need only think about, and the rapids inside him became a still pond.  She turned his constant craving for control into something positive, because she’d given him the power to be in control of himself.

For two very cynical and life-hardened characters, they find the softer side with each other:

You don’t have to hope anymore, Erin,” he whispered at her lips. “Hope implies you might not get what you want….If I’m what you want, hope is futile, because I couldn’t belong to you any more completely than I already do.

Yup, that’s tender.

IN A NUTSHELL:

If you are not a fan of Tessa Bailey, you will be after reading this book.

As if her thoughts had made him appear, Connor strode into the courthouse. Her pulse started beating double time, her stomach muscles tightening. Good Lord, the man was a fucking panty dropper. She’d only been away from him for a few hours and it felt like years since she’d experienced his presence. In jeans and a fitted gray T-shirt that molded to his muscles like her hands itched to do, he personified confidence and authority. Hot, rugged male. His gaze connected with hers immediately and darkened. She thought back to that morning when he’d dressed in the early morning light, his abs flexing as he pulled the shirt over his head. His erection barely contained by his boxers. She’d never been one to beg for anything, but she’d been seconds from offering him her mouth. Pleading for the privilege of sucking him off.

Conner shook his head at her with a sexy half smile on his face, as if he could read her thoughts across the room. He stopped at the metal detector and walked through after the security guard beckoned him forward. When the woman grabbed her wand and instructed him to raise his hands in the air, something ugly reared its head deep inside her. The detector hadn’t even beeped. There was no reason for the personal service. When the woman smiled at Connor and ran a hand down her ponytail, Erin propelled herself forward, boots echoing on the polished marble.

Erin hissed as she drew even with the guard. “If you’re done feeling up my boyfriend, I’d love a turn. We were in a rush this morning.”

The guard dropped the wand, letting it dangle near her thigh. “Did you just hiss at me?”
Erin hissed again.

“Okay.” Connor stepped between them, winking down at her. “We should go. Don’t want to keep the clerk waiting.”

Appreciation spread in her belly like honey. He hadn’t chided her for her behavior or apologized to the woman on her behalf. Instead he’d given the impression they were on their way to get married, appeasing her jealousy in one fell swoop. “That’s right.” She sauntered toward the elevator. “There’s vows to be exchanged. Rings to put on fingers. Shit like that.”

She glanced behind her to find Connor staring at her ass as she walked, so she put a little swing in her hips and savored his groan. Damn. She’d definitely never had this much fun at a courthouse.

A moment later, she and Connor stepped into an empty elevator. She hit the button for the top floor even though the clerk was on the first, and leaned back against the wall, looking up at him through her eyelashes. “How was your morning, baby? Was it worth leaving me in bed, all hot and bothered for you?”

“Fuck no, it wasn’t.” He crooked a big finger at her. “Climb on up here.”

Thank you for your interest in my books! I'm Tessa and I live in the crazy, loud, overcrowded borough of Brooklyn, New York. I love it here. This city is a constant source of inspiration, which is why I've decided to set my most recent books in the Line of Duty Series here.

I moved to New York when I was eighteen, the day after I graduated high school. Threw my suitcase in the back of a Chevrolet Cavalier and drove across the country to find my adventure. I'm still finding it, little by little.Thank you for being a part of it.
