Welcome to the book tour for The Fear That Divides Us, Book 3 in the Devil's Dust series. Join us for a review and Giveaway.
Road Captain of the Devil’s Dust Motorcycle Club, Bobby has
the scars to prove just how dangerous his life is. He gives the world he knows
hell and loves every moment of it. Wearing a panty-dropping grin along the way,
his fierce life has never been a problem for him, until her. Jessica is the
only female who has him distracted in his game. After taking him to bed, she’s
the only woman to tell him to take a hike. Waking with her gone, he can’t
resist her pull. He’s seen the marks on her body, ones which tell the horrors
she’s lived through. He’s also seen the fear in her eyes when she lets herself
become weak to his advances. Bobby has a decision to make. Can he help Jessica,
or will it mean giving up his carefree life?
Jessica, also known as Doc, lives life in fear. Years back,
she ran to the Devil’s Dust for protection, seeking the demise of her abusive,
dominant husband. Her mind and soul tortured by her past, she can’t allow
herself to move forward. The only thing in her sight is her daughter’s safety. Even
if she has the attention of one particular tattooed biker, she can’t succumb to
his charm and drag her daughter back into a world of danger, no matter how much
he thinks he can save her.
Mistakes will be made.
Fears will be faced.
Pain will be remembered.
Can Bobby and Jessica survive the dangers they bring upon
themselves?
I’m a fan of this series. I thought the first two books had
highly compelling stories. Yes, there is
an MC context, but there is little gratuitous or sensational violence. It is not as gritty as some of the other MC
books I’ve read, but it works for this series. These stories are driven by
emotion as much as the drama.
This is a rescue story. Jessica arrives at the Devil’s Dust
compound battered, beaten, and just escaped from her abusive husband. She
connects easily with Bobby, but given her abused mindset, she builds a
stronghold around her heart and mind. Having been in love with her husband
before he went south, she associates love with risk, fear and abuse. She will not let it happen to her and her
daughter again.
Bobby’s reputation as the club’s loverboy is the perfect reason
for Jessica to get involved with him. He
knows how to keep it superficial and Lord knows, she does not want anything
deep. Deep emotions = pain. This would
be a great plan except for the fact that their attraction is magnetic. Can
Jessica overcome her over protective instincts that have left her numb to life?
Will she be able to open herself up to emotions?
M.N. Forgy writes an emotional story about overcoming fears and
learning to truly live by risking and taking chances. Her characters are familiar to the readers of
the other books in the series. There is a certain sense of satisfaction in
following story of these two characters. I appreciated how they achieved their
Happily Ever After.
My biggest critique is that the story felt unbalanced. In the first two books, both the hero and
heroine had serious issues to overcome and each became the others catalyst. As
strange as it sounds, that brought a certain sense of parity to the
narrative. Here Bobby is a hero and
despite the fact that he is the club’s manwhore, he is also a really nice guy –
the Knight in Shining Armor coming to the aid of a damsel in distress. Yet, he doesn’t seem to have the same level
of issues that need to be addressed. That inequity takes away a bit of
satisfaction for me. The rescue feel one-sided.
Setting-off-the-Bells moment: Bobby enacts exposure therapy with
Jessica. After an afternoon of research,
he’s become an amateur psychologist on PTSD. I don’t know if even fictional
characters should be dabbling in remedies for PTSD without professional
guidance. Yikes!
If you are a fan of the series, you will surely enjoy this book
if only to find out what happens to these likeable characters. It is an emotional, if unbalanced, story.

M.N. Forgy was raised in Missouri where she still lives with
her family. She's a soccer mom by day and a saucy writer by night. M.N. Forgy
started writing at a young age but never took it seriously until years later,
as a stay-at-home mom, she opened her laptop and started writing again. As a
role model for her children, she felt she couldn't live with the "what
if" anymore and finally took a chance on her character's story. So, with
her glass of wine in hand and a stray Barbie sharing her seat, she continues to
create and please her fans.
